NIGERIA: When Governance Rejects Law, Accountability, and Fear of God.

''If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent perversion of justice and righteousness in a province, do not marvel at the matter; for high official watches over high official, and higher officials are over them.'' Ecclesiastes 5:8.

Introduction: When Order Is Abandoned
Beloved, hear the Word of the Lord.
From the beginning of creation, God established order, boundaries, and governing principles. The rule of law is not a human invention—it is a reflection of divine nature. Before there were nations, constitutions, or institutions, there was order—divinely instituted and sovereignly enforced.
After creating all things and declaring them good, God placed man in Eden—not in chaos, but within structure, instruction, and responsibility:

“Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat…” (Genesis 2:16–17)

The first governance failure in Scripture was not political—it was spiritual: the rejection of divine instruction.
Even creation testifies to God’s commitment to order:

“Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so Genesis 1:9.
 When He assigned to the sea its limit,
So that the waters would not transgress His command, Proverbs 8:29.

The oceans obey. Creation submits.
But man rebelled.
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Genesis 6:6.
That same spirit of rebellion—resisting boundaries, despising instruction, and rejecting accountability—has echoed through generations and now appears in systems of governance.

• Power becomes abusive
Beloved, when order is weakened, the effects are visible:
• Policies that strain rather than support the people
• Systems that fail to protect the vulnerable
• Decisions disconnected from everyday realities
A nation without respect for law is a structure without foundation—it cannot stand indefinitely.

2. When Accountability Weakens, Trust Erodes
Accountability sustains confidence in leadership.
Today, many are asking:
• Are leaders accountable?
• Are institutions fair and independent?
• Is justice applied equally?
When these questions persist unanswered, trust begins to erode.
And when trust collapses:
• Citizens disengage
• Cynicism increases
• Hope diminishes
A system that avoids accountability invites decay.

3. The Burden Falls on the People
 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice;
But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29:2.
When governance fails, the people bear the weight.
We see it in:
• Rising cost of living
• Youth uncertainty
• Struggling businesses
• Pressured families
The cry of the people is real—and God sees.

4. The Church Must Remain a Voice of Truth
 ''Learn to do good; Seek justice,
Rebuke the oppressor.
Defend the fatherless,
Plead for the widow.'' Isaiah 1:17.

The church must not be silent.
We are not called to rebellion—but we are called to righteousness.
The church must:
• Speak truth with wisdom
• Stand for justice
• Intercede for the nation
Silence in the face of injustice is not neutrality—it is compromise.

5. A Call to Personal Integrity
This message is not only for leaders—it is for all of us.
We must ask:
• Do we uphold integrity?
• Do we excuse small corruption?
• Do we stand for truth when it is costly?
National transformation is not only top-down—itis bottom-up.
A righteous nation is built by righteous people.

Conclusion: There Is Still Hope
This is not a message of despair.
God is still involved in nations.
God still responds to prayer.
God still honors righteousness.

Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people Proverbs 14:34.

Nigeria is not beyond restoration—but restoration will require a return to order, justice, and accountability.

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we lift our nation before You. You see the burdens of Your people. We ask for mercy. Let justice flow in our land. Give wisdom to leaders. Strengthen institutions. Help us to walk in righteousness and truth.
Let Your order be restored and let peace return to our nation.
