The Man God Uses: — Burden, Vision-Driven, and Selfless in Purpose

 

Anchor Scriptures: Nehemiah 1–6, Exodus 3–5, John 3:30

1. The Person God Uses Carries a Burden for His People
Beloved, God does not begin His work with platforms—He begins with burdens.
Before God raises a man publicly, He wounds him privately with a concern that will not let him rest.
Consider Nehemiah:
He was comfortable in the king’s palace, yet when he heard that Jerusalem lay in ruins, he wept, fasted, and prayed.
He did not say, “This is not my department.”
He did not say, “Others will handle it.”
The pain of the people became his personal burden.
Also consider Moses:
Though raised in privilege, he could not ignore the suffering of Israel in Egypt. Something burned within him.
But hear this clearly—his burden, though genuine, had to be purified.
His initial reaction was human anger, but his calling required divine alignment.
Burden alone is not enough—it must be refined until it becomes God’s assignment.
Truth:
A man without a burden is a man unqualified for divine use.
In this generation, many seek titles without tears, influence without intercession, and authority without anguish.
But hear the Word of the Lord:
God does not entrust His people to those who are emotionally disconnected from their pain.
Yoruba wisdom declares:
“Ti ọkan bá kò rọ, ọwọ́ kì í ṣiṣẹ́ rere.”- (When the heart is not tender, the hands cannot do what is right.)
If you do not feel the cry of the people, you will misuse the power over them.

2. The Person God uses is Driven by Vision not Oppprtunity
A burden initiates, but vision directs.
Many are active, but few are sent. Activity is not assignment.
Nehemiah did not just weep—he saw.
He had a defined vision:
• Rebuild the wall
• Restore dignity
• Reestablish order
He knew what to do, how to do it, and why it mattered.
Likewise, Moses was not just moved by oppression—he was commissioned with vision to deliver a nation and lead them into promise.
Vision does three things:
1. It gives direction in confusion
2.It sustains you in opposition
3.It protects you from distraction
Without vision, leaders become:
• Reactive instead of strategic
• Popular instead of purposeful
• Busy but ineffective
Hear this prophetic warning:
When a man has no vision from God, he will borrow agendas from men—and eventually betray the people he was meant to serve.
And we see this pattern clearly in our land:
• Policies without compassion that crush the poor
• Borrowing without structure that mortgages generations
• Development agreements that promise growth but quietly transfer control
• Opposition weakened not by the strength of government, but by internal ambition and ego
This is what happens when vision is absent—a nation becomes an experiment in confusion.
Yoruba wisdom says:
“A kì í rin irin àjò kí a má mọ ibi tí a ń lọ.” - (No one journeys without knowing the destination.)

3. The Peron God uses is committed to God's Purpose - Not Personal Power
This is where many rise—and fall.
It is one thing to start with God.
It is another thing to remain aligned when power comes.
The true servant of God does not buildsystems to sustain himself—he builds structures that fulfill divine purpose.
Look at John the Baptist:
When influence increased and crowds gathered, he made a declaration that shocked his generation:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.”
That is the language of a man who cannot be corrupted by power.
Contrast this with leaders who:
• Change rules to remain in control
• Silence opposition to protect their seat
• Confuse personal survival with national interest
Such people are not serving God’s purpose—they are using God’s platform to serve themselves.
Hear this clearly:
Any leader who must remain in power to remain relevant has already lost divine relevance.
Yoruba wisdom warns:
“Agbára tí a fi ń jẹ́ olóyè, kì í jẹ́ ká gbàgbé pé a jẹ́ ènìyàn.” - (The power of leadership must not make one forget one’s humanity.)
And again:
“A kì í jẹ́ kí agbára ju ẹni lọ, kó má bà a jẹ́.” - (One must not allow power to exceed one’s character, lest it destroy him.)

Prophetic interruption
And the Lord says:
“Many who began with Me have replaced Me.
They started as servants but now sit as owners.
They were sent to deliver My people, but now they trade over them.
Therefore, I will confront every altar of self-preservation disguised as leadership.”

4. The Tragedy of Self-Perpetuatiing Leadership
When leaders lose burden, abandon vision,and cling to power:
• The people suffer
• The system decays
• The future is mortgaged
What begins as service becomes control.
What begins as purpose becomes possession.
And hear this:
This is not leadership—it is a system of bondage wearing the garment of authority.
And the Lord declares:
“I will dismantle every throne that feeds on My people.
I will shake every system sustained by oppression.
For I did not raise leaders to consume the people, but to serve them.”
We have seen this pattern—even in our own nation, Nigeria:
• Leadership without empathy
• Vision replaced by survival politics
• Systems manipulated for continuity of power
• Borrowing that secures the present but enslaves the future
This is not governance—it is captivity in refined form.

5. God's Standard for True Leaders
The man God uses must pass three tests:
1. The Burden Test
If you do not feel what God feels about His people, you are not yet ready to lead them.
2. The Vision Test
If you have not seen what God wants to do, then you are only reacting—not leading.
3. The Surrender Test
If you cannot step aside when your assignment is complete, then you were never serving God—you were serving yourself.

Prophetic Charge
God is raising men and women who cannot be bought by position, who cannot be silenced by pressure,
and who cannot be corrupted by power.
They will carry My burden, walk in My vision, and establish My purpose—and when their assignment is complete, they will step aside without negotiation, for their reward is not in power, but in obedience.

Conclusion:
Beloved, the question is not:
“Do you want to be used by God?”
The real question is:
• Can you carry His burden?
• Can you submit to His vision?
• Can you relinquish power when your assignment is complete?
Because the person God uses is not:
• The most popular
• The most powerful
• The most visible
But the one who is:
• Burdened for the people
• Aligned with His vision
• Detached from self-preservation in power
