The Agony of the Oppressed

 Revelation without depth of wisdom does not produce transformation—it produces noise. The bold declaration, “subsidy is gone,” echoed like a trumpet blast of insight, yet it lacked the weight of wisdom, structure, and compassion for the millions who would bear its consequences.

For revelation without responsibility becomes oppression.
Once again, Nigeria stands at a dangerous crossroads—marching, not forward, but backward—returning to an evil city whose very foundation was laid in deception.
The City Built on Deceit
Imagine a vast city erected on land seized through manipulation and force.
Its designers were half-trained architects—men without depth, without foresight, without integrity.
Its builders imported rejected and expired materials—what other nations discarded became its foundation.
Then came the absurdity:
• roadside vulcanizers became contractors,
• jet pilots became structural engineers,
• confusion was enthroned as competence.
Such a city is not designed to stand.
It is designed to fail.
Before completion, the foreign handlers handed over the project—not to builders—but to demolition experts. Men skilled, not in construction, but in destruction.
Yet the strings remained attached.
Their wages, their loyalty, their allegiance—still controlled from afar.
So that any attempt to correct the structure could be swiftly crushed.
A Nation of Puppets
This is not just a story. It is a mirror.
Many who have ascended to the highest seats of power in Nigeria have ruled not as leaders, but as puppets—while unseen hands pull invisible strings.
And history has shown a consistent pattern:
Anyone who dares to resist—even slightly—is either:
• silenced,
• disgraced, or
• removed.
Thus, leadership becomes a theatre—
a macabre dance of dependence, where allegiance shifts from one foreign master to another.
Not based on national interest—
but on where wealth is hidden,
and where families will find refuge when power slips away.
The Deception of the “Bird of Fortune”
While the elite play their games, the masses are fed illusions.
They are shown the head of a “bird of fortune”—hidden inside a sealed, non-transparent bag.
They are told: “Rejoice, prosperity has come.”
But they are never allowed to verify the truth.
Is the bird alive?
Is it breathing?
Is it even real?
Often, it is already dead.
And if not, it is dying.
When power is secured and expectations rise, the elites finally open the bag—
and throw out a lifeless bird.
That is when the masses realize:
There was never any miracle.
Only manipulation.
Year after year, cycle after cycle, deception continues—
until a painful truth emerges:
In the arena of power, deception has become a qualification.
A Biblical Mirror: Egypt’s Hidden Agenda
The same pattern unfolded in Scripture.
During famine, the family of Jacob journeyed to Egypt in search of survival. Through Joseph, Pharaoh welcomed them and offered them the best of the land—Goshen.
“I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat the fat of the land.”— Genesis 45:18
“Settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land.”— Genesis 47:6
But a deeper question must be asked:
Why would a ruler give his choicest resources so freely—without a future price?
Time answered the question.
What began as generosity ended in enslavement.
Only God gives without hidden motives.
Only God gave His Son, Jesus Christ, freely for redemption—not for exploitation.
The Trap of Attractive Offers
Scripture gives a warning many ignore:
“Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.”
— Proverbs 23:3
Not every opportunity is a blessing.
Some are bait.
Like a fish driven by appetite swallows both hook and bait, so nations driven by desperation fall into carefully designed traps.
Nigeria has often swallowed:
• empty promises,
• sweet slogans,
• deceptive reforms.
And in doing so, has unknowingly stepped into self-imposed captivity.
God’s Judgment on Oppression
God is not silent about injustice:
“Do not rob the poor… for the Lord will plead their cause.”
— Proverbs 22:22–23
Yet many leaders ignore this warning.
They manipulate systems, buy power, force authority—forgetting that power obtained wrongly carries consequences that cannot be escaped.
Behind the curtains of influence and affluence lies a different story:
• hidden sicknesses,
• broken families,
• addicted children,
• silent grief.
Their lives reflect the words of Jesus:
“You are like whitewashed tombs… outwardly beautiful, inwardly full of death.”— Matthew 23:27
When Leadership Becomes Punishment
Nigeria today increasingly mirrors the days of King Rehoboam.
When the people cried for relief, he responded with arrogance:
“I will add to your yoke… I will discipline you with scorpions.”— 1 Kings 12:14
Instead of easing burdens, leadership multiplied suffering.
And today, the signs are undeniable:
• economic strain tightening daily
• insecurity spreading across regions
• kidnappings becoming normalized
• insurgency refusing to fade
• hope steadily declining
The condition is so evident that perception no longer requires sight or sound.
The Verdict of Heaven
Scripture delivers the final diagnosis:
“When the righteous rule, the people rejoice;
but when the wicked rule, the people groan.”— Proverbs 29:2
Across Nigeria today, that groaning is rising—from homes, from streets, from hearts weary of promises without substance.
Closing Reflection
The agony of the oppressed is not accidental.
It is the product of:
• shallow revelation without wisdom,
• leadership without accountability,
• promises without intention,
• and a system sustained by deception.
Until truth replaces manipulation, until responsibility replaces rhetoric,
and until righteousness replaces greed—the groaning will continue.
